Marugame Castle is one of 12 castles in Japan that still retains part of its traditional wooden structure. As the description "Stone Castle" suggests, it features magnificent stone walls that boast of being the highest in Japan, and their curvilinear beauty, called "Ougi no Kobai," are a must see. In contrast, the keep is the smallest in Japan, and the unbalance with the stone walls makes this castle's beauty all the more prominent.

Point

If you are going around the inside of Marugame Castle, it is recommended to try the Marugame castle stamp rally.
There are several stamps inside Marugame Castle in various locations. By stamping the same paper in turn as you go around each spot, you complete the picture of Marugame Castle.
You can purchase the specialized stamp paper at the Marugame Castle Tourist Information Center. A portion of the sales will support repairs to the stone walls.
The Marugame Castle Tourist Information Center is also a must visit, as it sells bamboo fans, which are a special product of Marugame City, and which boasts a 90% share in the domestic market.
There are also rickshaws operating in the area, so you can enjoy Marugame Castle from a different angle.
