Mt. Daisen
Mt. Daisen is the highest mountain in the Chugoku region at 1,709 meters. The mountain is popular for hiking and downhill mountain biking in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Also, Mt. Daisen’s autumn foliage, which peaks from the end of October to early November, is among the most beautiful in all of Japan, drawing huge crowds of visitors. Mt. Daisen is home to Daisen-ji Temple, which will celebrate its 1,300th anniversary next year, and Ogamiyama Shrine, which features Japan’s longest natural flagstone pavement and is known to be flowing with mythical energy.
