Tottori Sand Dunes, The Sand Museum

TOTTORI NATURE

The Tottori Sand Dunes are located in an area of the San'in Kaigan Geopark and are Japan's second largest sand dunes, stretching 2.4km south-to-north and 16km east-to-west. The wind ripple patterns on the sand created by winds from the Sea of Japan are very beautiful and charm the hearts of all who see them. In one corner of the Tottori Sand Dunes is the world's first Sand Museum dedicated to exhibiting sculptures made of sand. The basic concept of The Sand Museum is "World Tour on Sand," with their theme changing every year. The world's top sand sculptors create intricate works with powerful presence here.

Route1

Around 20 minutes by route bus from JR Tottori Station. Disembark at Sakyu Higashiguchi, and then around a 1 minute walk from the bus stop.

Route2

From JR Tottori Station, take the Loop Kirinjishi Bus (about 25 min.); get off at "Tottori Sakyu"
*Only runs on Sat., Sun., holidays, and during summer holidays (Aug. 1-Aug. 31)

Opening Hours: Weekdays and Sundays: 9:00-18:00 (no admission after 17:30)
Saturdays: 9:00-20:00 (no admission after 19:30)

Closed: Open every day between Saturday, July 11, 2020 and Monday, January 3, 2022.
Closed outside this period to create sand sculptures and for maintenance.
