Mt. Daisen, which towers over Tottori, is the highest mountain in the Chugoku Region and is also called the Mt. Fuji of the Hoki Province. The forest of Japanese beech that stretches across the foot of the mountain is the largest of its kind in western Japan, and offers beautiful sights throughout the four seasons, from the green season starting in May to the autumn foliage spanning from late October to early November. You can enjoy mountain climbing, trekking, cycling and other activities, and in winter it is the place for skiing and snowshoe hikes. This is a spot where you can enjoy nature and activities throughout the year. It is also known as a historically religious site for places such as Daisen Temple and Oogamiyama Jinja, making it an attractive place that balances rich nature and culture.

Access

  • Get on the Daisenji iki Japan Kotsu Bus from JR Yonago Station bus terminal (about 50 minutes). Get off at Daisenji Bus Stop, then walk 10 minutes in the direction of Daisenji Temple to get to the start of the hiking trail.

Point

[Footwear] There are many stone or gravel paths in the temples, so it is best to wear sneakers and other comfortable shoes.
[Clothing] You will be halfway up a mountain, so it is cool in the morning and evening even in summer, and from autumn it get cold, so it is best to bring jackets and warm clothing.
[Parking] There is a free parking area near the start of the hiking trail, but in winter it requires a fee.
[Preparations] The Summer Mountain Climbing course that goes to the top of Mt. Daisen takes about 6 hours round trip. In addition to preparing mountain climbing gear, check the locations of toilets, and prepare about 2L of drinks, travel food, bug repellent, etc. Do not forget to submit your mountain climbing notification before you start.
