Tsuwano Tonomachi Street
Tsuwano is a castle town with the feeling of a hidden village in the quiet mountainous area, and is also called "little Kyoto." Tonomachi Street, which runs through the middle of the town, maintains the old atmosphere from the age when it was a castle town, and has been designated by the Government as a "Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings." Along either side of the street are waterways filled with colorful koi carp. Spring, when the yabusame shinji, and early summer, when the Japanese iris flowers come into bloom and the Sagimai, the heron dance, is held, are the best times to visit.
