Shimane Prefecture is home to over 60 hot springs, with varying types of mineral compositions.
Tamatsukuri Onsen is said to be the oldest hot spring in all of Japan, with mention of it dating back to written works from 1,300 years ago.
This spring is known for its skin beautifying effects because it effectively moisturizes the skin and helps the skin retain this moisture. A study by a cosmetics company found that a large number of women living in Shimane Prefecture have beautiful skin. Shimane’s abundance of great hot springs are believed to be one of the reasons.
