Around 15 minutes from Tadanoumi Port in Takehara City. This small island of around 4km in circumference used to be the site of a poison gas factory, so it has been called "An Island Erased From Maps." It is now a designated national park, known as the habitat of around 900 wild rabbits, and receives many visitors from within Japan and overseas who come seeking solace.
The island has the Kyukamura Ohkunoshima resort, which includes an inn, onsen and local cuisine, as well as facilities such as the Poison Gas Museum and the Ohkunoshima Visitors Center. At Kyukamura Ohkunoshima you can enjoy such activities as camping, cycling, tennis and fishing, and in the summer, a swimming area and outdoor pool are open for visitors.
This is an island where you can spend a relaxing time while stroking rabbits and being surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.
