Miharashi-tei
Miharashi-tei is located on a cliff at the foot of Senkoji Temple, a famous spot in the city of slopes, Onomichi. It was built in 1921 as a villa with an excellent view. After being used as a ryokan temporarily after World War 2, it was empty for almost 30 years. However, it was restored as a lodging facility with an exquisite view of the Onomichi Channel. There are still some portions that use the wood from over 100 years ago and it’s a place where visitors can enjoy the history of a Japan Heritage building with an amazing view of the Seto Inland Sea. There are different types of rooms including a dormitory and private rooms, so you can choose the type appropriate for your travel style.
"Saen" generally refers to tea paddies, but people in Onomichi have long called the villas where guests are serviced and enjoy tea, "saen." Peaking in prosperity as a port town from the Edo period to the early Showa period, successive generations of wealthy merchants and celebrities built villas with a focus on design all along the hilltops with good views, thus leading to the blossoming of Onomichi's saen culture amidst the captivating atmosphere of interwoven mountains and the ocean.
