Mt. Misen
Mt. Misen is a 535-meter tall mountain found on Miyajima Island. Since opened by Buddhist monk and jack of all trades Kukai, or posthumously Kobo-Daishi, in the year 806, countless people have visited the island as part of their religious faith. The island’s old growth forest and Itsukushima Shrine are both World Heritage Sites. It takes about 30 minutes on foot from Shishiiwa Station on the Miyajima Ropeway to reach the peak of the mountain. The peak provides breathtaking views of many islands dotting the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. On sunny days, the view extends as far as the island of Shikoku in the distance.
